Plante polymorphe. Plante annuelle, velue-hérissée; tige de 20-60 cm, dressée, rameuse;
Écologie : (répartition d'après la flore) Champs et moissons, dans toute la France.
Répartition hors de France : Europe centrale et méridionale; Asie occidentale et centrale; Afrique septentrionale.Plante nuisible aux moissons.

Anthers bluish. Always a deep scarlet, cf most Papaver dubium, and with stouter seed head
Much-branched, coarsely hairy, very variable annual 15-45 cm high.
Ecology UK: (distribution according to flora) an abundant cornfield weed throughout the British Isles.
